Dental plans are a much better alternative to dental insurance. They offer plans with no yearly maximum (dental insurance max is usually at $750-$1500), no deductible (There is $50 deductible on dental insurance), no waiting periods (insurance waiting periods up to 18 months for major procedures). However one advice though is to look at the list of dentists. Call a couple of them to see if they’re still accepting the plan and if they’re taking new patients.

Thanks rtk for sharing your experience with us. Have you spoken to the customer care? What do they have to say?

  2. rtk says:

    DO NOT SIGN UP AETNA
I can’t believe America put out with this kind of insurance. Ok, first of all when you say insurance means protecting or safeguarding against risk or injury for every human being.

My husband and I had Aetna PPO dental for almost a year before he had a problem with his tooth that needs to be done right away because he is in pain. The dentist told him that he needs to do a root canal. Now, this is the worst part of Aetna that they are not cover for any dental major work for “a year” eventhough; they did NOT send us anything about this and a booklet about the coverage. BTW the customer service gives you different information, and for short WORST ever. We found out later that our Aetna will cover in August while the procedure had to be done last week of June, so basically if we waited one month, Aetna would pay. And Oh! take note they are NOT covering any dental problem when you see the dentist during weekend. I guess they want you to suffer and suffer and suffer and get killed by suffering from pain. This what most patient driving them crazy after all those years thinking that having insurance will benefits you and makes you safe.

Please save yourself by not signing up this insurance and DO NOT believe anything they say in their website because it’s all crap.

Hey, I liked the post! I recently saw this newspaper article about ‘cosmetic dentistry terms you should know’. I’m looking into getting some porcelain veneers, and I always thought that an Apioectomy was something totally different from what it actually is. Just goes to show… RESEARCH before you dive into something like this! Anyway, keep up the stellar writing!
